Emporia Area Habitat for Humanity is busy as we get close to mid-January.
Part of that is a new fundraising approach. Work currently underway on a house at 502 State will lead to a new opportunity, according to Director Eric Kirby.
Kirby says COVID-19 forced Habitat to cancel several fundraisers last year and caused the organization to rethink its fundraising options, which led to the decision to sell the house under construction at 502 State. Kirby says Habitat is tentatively planning to have the “A Lord-Built House” fundraiser back on the calendar, and Habitat is also developing a “Women Build” where a home is built primarily by women. That process will start with a seminar involving construction, home repair skills and Habitat policies and procedures.
Habitat also built a home at 122 Mechanic last year despite supply issues and increases in costs for building materials.
Residents interested in purchasing the house can call Kirby at 620-794-4483, email ekirby@emporiaareahabitat.org or message Habitat for Humanity through its Facebook page.
