Tray Buchanan’s standout season continues for the Emporia State men’s basketball program.
The grad transfer from South Dakota State was named the MIAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season Monday. Buchanan averaged 30 points and 4.5 assists, scoring 27 points in a 91-59 win over Central Missouri — followed by 33 points against Missouri Western in last week’s games.
Buchanan is the leading scorer in NCAA Division II, averaging over 27 points a game. He has scored at least 20 points in 11 straight games, the longest streak by an ESU player since Ryan Sprecker did that in 15 straight games in the 1988-1989 season. He has also scored at least 30 points in four games as the Hornets are off to their best 15-game record since the 2008-2009 season.
