Conditions have been dry areawide for several months, and abnormally dry conditions have officially come to parts of the KVOE listening area west of Emporia.
The US Drought Monitor has Chase County west of Kansas Highway 177 and far west Greenwood County now as abnormally dry in its weekly report from Thursday.
Most of the state has been in some sort of drought level for weeks. Here at the KVOE studios, rain and snow have been in short supply since October. We’ve had 0.90 inches of rainfall on Veterans Day, 0.60 inches of rain on Dec. 15, less than an inch of dry snowfall and freezing drizzle New Year’s Day and around two inches of dry snow Jan. 6. One to two inches of snow is expected for Lyon County on Saturday.
