Road conditions remain favorable locally despite temperatures dropping below 20 in the overnight hours.
Light snow and icy precipitation impacted the listening area late Friday night through the early morning hours Saturday creating less than ideal driving conditions across the area. Thankfully, the inclimate weather led to very little in the way of traffic accidents aside from a non-injury slide-off involving a grain semi at the US Highway 50 roundabout in Emporia.
Treatment from Lyon County, Emporia and Kansas Department of Transportation crews had a positive impact on local and area roadways. Major arterial roads remain passable, although drivers should be cautious due to refreezing in the overnight hours.
Residential and collector streets are still partially snow-covered with occasional slick spots while most major highways — Interstate 35, the Kansas Turnpike, US Highway 50 and Kansas Highway 99 — continue to experience seasonal driving conditions with some wet and occasionally slick areas.
The recent winter storm system did not bring much in the way of snow accumulation:
*3 miles northwest of Emporia: 2 inches
*Cottonwood Falls: 1 inch
*Burlingame: 1 inch
*Lebo: 1-2 inches
The accumulations and potential for refreezing did lead to just a few schedule adjustments Sunday:
