Major street improvements are coming to a Chase County community thanks to a combination of federal and local funding.
According to a news release from the United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development Acting State Director Kansas Dan Fischer announced recently that the department will be allocating more than $22 million in funding to improve critical infrastructure needs within 15 different Kansas communities. The list of communities includes Cottonwood Falls which will be receiving a $475,000 loan in addition to a contribution from the loan applicant.
The planned work will include street rehabilitation to curbs, guttering and stormwater grading. According to the release from the USDA, many street cross-sections have become warped and are experiencing reduced stormwater capacity as well as irregular profiles which have caused potholes and ponding.
The project will cover over 13,000 square yards of road with asphalt milling and resurfacing work included in the plans. Word on when the work is set to begin is currently pending.
