US Senator Roger Marshall stopped through the KVOE listening area Saturday morning to share his thoughts on a number of national and global issues with local constituents.
Prior to his stop at the Hebrews Coffee House in Cottonwood Falls, Marshall spoke with KVOE News on the same topics including the ongoing omicron-led COVID-19 spike. Marshall feels the vast majority of Kansans are ready to move past the pandemic and he believes that once the current spike reaches its peak the country may be able to do so due to a combination of natural immunity and vaccinations.
When asked if he feels COVID continues to be overly politicized Marshall stated that he believes it is saying it remains “the headline” national media outlets utilize to “keep eyes on their media.”
On the topic of inflation, Marshall placed the current rise in national prices at the feet of President Joe Biden saying “we are where we are because of his policies.”
Marshall says if we are to quell the ongoing rise in inflation and notable disruption in supply chains we need to have a change in policy. Marshall says the first step should be to “stop the mandates” which he says are causing shortages in several industries.
Additionally, Marshall would like to see an end to increased federal unemployment benefits which he believes is continuing to hamper the workforce saying “we have to stop paying people to stay at home.”
Marshall’s comments Saturday were not limited to just domestic affairs, but also the US’s involvement in global issues namely the current situation involving Russia and Ukraine. Marshall stated he does not want to see US troops involved in any conflict and says NATO and the European Union should be leading negotiations on the matter not the US as he believes the country is “negotiating from a place of weakness.”
Again, Marshall placed blame on President Joe Biden saying his actions have weakened the US in the eyes of many other countries.
Marshall continued saying that he believes President Biden’s weakness is a “bipartisan assessment” saying he believes senators on both sides of the aisle agree with him.
Marshall’s visit follows a stop by US Senator Jerry Moran in Emporia this past Thursday where he served as the featured speaker for the Flint Hills Optimist Club’s regular meeting.
