Emporia Police have apprehended a juvenile suspect in connection to two separate alleged vehicle pursuits from last week.
According to EPD Cpt. Lisa Hayes, around 12:30 pm last Monday a vehicle pursuit began after officers attempted to stop an SUV that had been reported for reckless driving around South Ave. and Prairie Street. The pursuit was eventually called off after it reached speeds in excess of 80 mph.
Around 2:30 am Thursday, officers allegedly spotted the same vehicle near Emporia High School and the driver reportedly fled yet again triggering a second pursuit. The pursuit again had to be called off in the “interest of public safety” after reaching speeds up to 108 mph.
An investigation into the incidents led authorities to an unnamed juvenile who was identified and apprehended Friday. According to Hayes the suspect allegedly took the SUV without permission and later returned it.
The suspect cooperated with authorities and was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with criminal deprivation of property and two counts of flee and elude.
The name of the individual will not be released as they are under the age of 18.
