There are still a few gift baskets available if you want to adopt a pet through the Emporia Animal Shelter.
Fourth-grade students in Stephanie Calderwood’s project-based learning group at Timmerman Elementary have been working since November on an effort to learn more about pet safety, including a book, “Zoo Break,” and other materials. Students then sold chocolate-covered Oreos and turned them into 10 baskets, including dog bowls and leashes plus treats from Hill’s Pet Nutrition, toys from PetSense and a free check-up from East Emporia Veterinary Clinic. Student Haley Krahenbuhl says it was a fun project.
Fellow student Addison Good says she learned a lot along the way.
Humane Society of the Flint Hills Director Stephanie Achille was grateful for the gift baskets, and she hopes those bring people in to the Animal Shelter — especially with intakes still getting processed at a high rate.
