New technology at Newman Regional Health will allow the hospital to provide an even higher level of care for their patients.
The hospital announced Friday that it has secured new technology which allows for 3D mammography examinations. As opposed to the previous 2-dimensional exams, the new equipment now allows for the examination of tissue, layer by layer and will increase the accuracy of breast tissue images which will in-turn increase the detectability of breast cancer in patients, reduce the need for additional testing and allow for easier interpretation of breast tissue.
According to a news release from Newman, the new equipment was made possible by a donation from the Jones Testamentary Trust and an allocation from the Lyon County Commission as part of the 2022 budget. The new equipment is just the jumping-off point of a more than $600,000 investment into the W.S. and E.C. Jones Breast Care Center with additional upgrades to include the addition of a DEXA scan imaging test to measure bone density.
Updates to the center are expected to be completed come this spring.
