Union Street Social was the host of a first-time event in Emporia Sunday afternoon, a Drag Brunch.
Organized by the Emporia High School Gender and Sexuality Alliance, drag brunches are typically held in larger urban communities and organizer Orion Turner says it is something he has wanted to bring to Emporia for some time. This is the third drag event to be held in Emporia since the inaugural Pride Celebration back in June.
Turner feels the frequency and high level of support for these events sends an important message to the entire community that the LGBTQ population is one that “exists all year round.”
Once again, the host for Sunday’s event was Emporia native Q who says he is proud of how supportive the Emporia community has come and has high hopes for the future.
Proceeds from Sunday will go to benefit Emporia’s 2022 Pride celebration in June and GSA initiatives. Totals from Sunday are currently pending.
