Not only are COVID-19 numbers coming down quickly, but influenza numbers also haven’t risen markedly in Lyon County just yet.
Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern says flu numbers remain low.
Millbern says flu traffic is elevated over last year, when flu was virtually nonexistent, but flu is lower than normal — and noticeably lower than the 2019 flu season. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has also noted low flu activity across Kansas.
Health officials credited the use of COVID-19 mitigation policies, notably mask usage and social distancing, for the sharp reduction in flu cases last year. Flu season typically peaks in February before waning.
The next COVID-19 caseload report is expected Monday afternoon. Lyon County is at 9,929 cases after 198 new cases were announced in last week’s reports.
