The 14th annual Emporia Polar Plunge is happening this weekend.
The annual plunge and related activities will take place Saturday at Mouse Lake located at 1101 Topeka. Organizer Shelley Lutes laid out the schedule for Saturday’s activities during a recent interview on KVOE’s Morning Show.
Awards will also be given out for several categories including the best team and individual costumes, the top team and individual fundraiser and the team with the most participants. The goal for this year’s Polar Plunge is $17,500 with all proceeds going to benefit Special Olympics Kansas athletes.
Organizer Meredith Wagner says the support for Special Olympics was the main reason she chose to get involved with Polar Plunge.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all activities will take place on-site at Mouse Lake outside with no breakfast or lunch being served.
If you are interested in participating in Saturday’s activities you can still register online until noon Friday and then in person the day of the event. The cost to enter the plunge is $75 while the entry fee for the Polar Strut is $30.
