Water service in a limited area was offline for a time Wednesday after a water main break in north Emporia.
Public Works Director Dean Grant says the break involved a contractor working on the West 12th water main replacement project between Lincoln and Chestnut. The contractor apparently hit a service line that was previously undetected.
Crews have been replacing the existing water main for about a month. Eventually, the water main project will extend west to Grand.
