The Emporia High girls basketball team used a strong defensive effort to defeat Topeka Hayden 39-21 Tuesday night. The Lady Spartans held Hayden to 5 second half points.
Coach Carolyn Dorsey was pleased with the defensive effort.
Gracie Gilpin led the offense with 12 points.
The Emporia High boys were outscored by Hayden 52-40. The Spartans struggled in the first half trailing 23-13 at halftime. They scored only 4 points in the 1st quarter.
Coach Beau Welch said they never did completely recover from the slow offensive start.
River Peters and Parker Leeds led the Spartans will 11 points each.
Emporia High closes out the regular season Friday at Topeka Seaman.
