Light snow could be joined by isolated to scattered freezing drizzle across the KVOE listening area Thursday.
The National Weather Service has been expecting up to an inch of snowfall areawide for several days. Late Wednesday, the Weather Service also mentioned the potential for light freezing drizzle, especially from Kansas Highway 99 to the east. Only a thin glaze is anticipated, but that could increase the risk for travel issues.
Precipitation could begin before sunrise, although the Weather Service says travel impacts could begin around the morning commute and continue through early afternoon.
Meanwhie, temperatures and wind chills will start moderating Thursday after Wednesday morning’s wind chills dipped to -16 at the Emporia Municipal Airport. Tuesday’s high is forecast at 22 with wind chills from zero to 9 above. Friday’s high will be 33 with light northwest winds. High temperatures could approach 60 by Sunday.

1:15 pm Wednesday: Brutal wind chills easing — just in time for light accumulating snowfall Thursday
Brutal wind chills from early Wednesday are easing — slowly.
Overnight temperatures dropped to as low as 4 and wind chills plummeted to -16 at the Emporia Municipal Airport. Air temperatures struggled to get above 10 by noon, but wind chills stayed below zero all morning.
After temperatures in the upper teens and around 20 Wednesday afternoon, overnight lows should stay above 10 with wind chills around zero Wednesday night, light snow is set to develop areawide early Thursday. Up to an inch of snow is expected.
High temperatures will gradually climb afterward, with highs in the 40s by Saturdays and 50s by Sunday.
