The Emporia State womens and mens basketball teams began rivalry week with wins over Pittsburg State Wednesday night.
The Lady Hornets outscored Pittsburg State 93-86. All 5 starters scored in double-figures led by Victoria Price with a career-high 26 points.
Kali Martin added a career-high 23 points. Ehlaina Hartman finished with 18 points. Tre’Zure Jobe and Karsen Schultz both scored 13 points. Emporia State took the early lead 7-3 before Pitt State went on a run to take a 15 point lead. Emporia State would rally to take a 42-41 lead by halftime. The Lady Hornets led by 11 in the 3rd quarter and were able to hold off Pittsburg State for the win.
Coach Toby Wynn said they kept battling.
The Lady Hornets are now 14-13 for the season and 9-12 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State men outscored Pittsburg State 75-52. Tray Buchanan led the way with his first career double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Jumah’Ri Turner added 15 points and Kaden Evans finished with 10 points. Emporia State led by 11 at halftime and built a 28 point lead in the 2nd half.
Coach Craig Doty said the win was a good sign.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 20-7 for the season and 15-6 in the MIAA.
Emporia State hosts Washburn Saturday in the final regular-season game.
