Emporia’s new daily record high for March 2 is better than 10 degrees above the prior high.
The Emporia Municipal Airport reached 86 degrees, well above the 75-degree high set back in 1955.

Wednesday’s temperature reached the previous 75-degree record before 11 am and went up to 81 degrees shortly before noon. Before Wednesday, the daily record dated back to 1955.

Wednesday’s high temperature is projected at 82 degrees. That would be well above the current record of 75 degrees set back in 1955.
Thursday’s current record high of 76 degrees (1955) and Saturday’s record of 83 degrees (2009) both appear safe, with 69 degrees expected Thursday and 76 degrees with storms possible Saturday. Friday’s record high of 75 degrees, dating back to 1956, could be threatened with 74 degrees expected.
Numerous daily records have been reset since just after Thanksgiving:
*Nov. 29 had a high of 77, above the previous record of 74 set in 1998.
*Dec. 2’s high of 79 degrees set the all-time monthly high for a December and surpassed both the daily high of 72 from 2001 and the prior monthly high of 74 set Dec. 5, 2001.
*Dec. 14’s high of 68 degrees was above the prior mark of 65 degrees set in 1965.
*Dec. 15’s high of 76 topped the previous high of 69 degrees set in 2002.
*Feb. 1’s high of 71 degrees was above the prior record of 70 degrees in 2009.
The National Weather Service considers the Municipal Airport as the official reporting station for stats. Records for the airport date back to 1950.
