The Emporia High girls basketball team advanced to the Sub-State championship game after defeating Valley Center 56-40 in Wednesday night’s semi-final.
The Emporia High girls held a 16-6 lead after the first quarter and never trailed.
Emporia High Coach Carolyn Dorsey called the win a grinder.
Gracie Gilpin led the offense with 18 points. Addie Kirmer finished with 15 points and Rebecca Snyder added 11 points.
The Emporia High girls will host Kapaun Mt. Carmel Saturday in the Sub-State Championship game for the trip to State.
Kapaun outscored Goddard 39-32 in overtime.
The winner Saturday advances to the 5A State tournament to be played in Emporia at White Auditorium.
