Abnormally dry conditions now cover the entire KVOE listening area, meaning some level of drought status now blankets the state.
For about a month, abnormally dry conditions were noted south of a line from Council Grove to Reading to Lebo, with no drought status north of that line. All areas northeast of that line filled in as abnormally dry in the US Drought Monitor’s latest update Thursday.
The expansion of abnormally dry status follows upwards of 5-14 inches of snowfall last month for the immediate Emporia area.
Moderate drought, the next level of drought, is now in parts of Dickinson, Elk and Marion counties close to the KVOE listening area.
