New weather alerts have been issued by the National Weather Service for Saturday.
The Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for Chase and Greenwood counties from 10 am to 8 pm along with a wind advisory from 10 am to 6 pm. The red flag warning signals critical fire danger, as borne out by a combination of temperatures in the mid-70s, dry grasses, low humidity levels and southwesterly wind gusts as high as 45 mph. It also sets up a burn ban for Greenwood County. Chase County is already in a burn ban through Sunday.
Lyon, Morris and Wabaunsee counties remain in a fire weather watch for potentially critical fire danger from 12-6 pm Saturday. Morris County is also in a wind advisory from 10 am to 6 pm with wind gusts as high as 40 mph expected.
