The Burlingame Lady Bearcats and St. Paul Lady Indians will meet in the Olpe 1A division 1 sub-state championship match Saturday.
The Olpe Lady Eagles got down early and could never recover as their season came to an end as St. Paul advanced to championship Saturday with a 45-27 win.
The Lady Indians opened the game with a 9-0 run and forced 19 turnovers in the first half to take a 19-10 lead into the locker room. In the second half, St. Paul outscored Olpe 26-17 to clinch their spot in the sub-state championship game.
Olpe head coach Ron Slaymaker gave credit to his girls saying they went down swinging.
St. Paul was led by junior Josey Harris with 18 points.
Burlingame advanced to the championship game after overcoming an early deficit to defeat Madison 37-31.
Madison would get off to a hot start and would build their lead to as many as 11 in the first half before taking a 21-16 lead into the half. The second half would see five lead changes and two ties before Kaylin Noonan would take the lead for good with 56 seconds remaining in the game.
Burlingame was led in scoring by senior Daelyn Winters with 15 points. Noonan added 12 points.
Head Coach Jeff Slater says it wasn’t pretty but they got the win.
Madison junior Yolaine Luthi led all scorers with 18 points.
The sub-state championships will be played Saturday night with Olpe and Burlingame playing in the boys game at 5:30 pm and the girls game tipping off at 7 pm. Coverage begins at 5:10 pm on Country 101.7 FM.
At the Lebo 1A Sub-State- girls semi-finals.
Waverly outscored Hartford 41-34.
Lebo defeated Southern Coffey County 71-27.
The Championship games begin with the Lebo boys playing Waverly at 5:30p.
Followed by the Lebo girls playing Waverly at 7 pm.
At the Lyndon 2-A Sub-State – Boys semi-final.
Chase County 54 Mission Valley 44.
Lyndon 62 Kansas City Christian 28.
The Championship games begin with the Northern Heights girls playing Mission Valley at 5:30 pm.
In the boy’s Championship game Lyndon plays Chase County at 7 pm.
In 3A girls play Friday night:
Santa Fe Trail outscored Osage City 63-37.
Eureka defeated Burlington 55-46.
Saturday 3A boys sub-state champion games.
Osage City plays Pleasant Ridge at West Franklin in the 5:30 game.
Council Grove plays Southeast of Saline at Minneapolis with tip-off at 5:30 pm.
Burlington plays Girard at Prairie View with tip-off at 5:30p.
