The Emporia High girls basketball team earned a trip to the 5A State Tournament by outscoring Kapaun Mt. Carmel 48-30 in Saturday’s Sub-State Championship game.
Emporia High Coach Carolyn Dorsey said they earned this opportunity.
Emporia High was led in scoring by Gracie Gilpin with 14 points. Rebecca Snyder finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Maddyn Stewart added 9 points, making 3 straight three-point shots at the start of the 4th quarter to help seal the win.
The Spartans improve to 17 and 5 for the season.
They will be joined at the 5A State tournament to be played at Emporias White Auditorium by Salina Central, Bishop Carroll, Andover Central, St. Thomas Aquinas, Lansing, Spring Hill, and DeSoto. The girls will play their first-round games on Thursday.
