Several area fire departments were involved in battling a grass fire late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.
Lyon County deputies were initially called out to the area of Road 50 and C to investigate a possible fire, and Olpe Fire Chief Wade Schmidt says his department and Chase County Fire were eventually called to the Kansas Turnpike mile marker 110, two miles south of the Flint Hills Cattle Pens exit, shortly before midnight.
Schmidt says access was limited by the Flint Hills terrain. He also says the area has several electrical transmission lines crossing through the burn area but there was no obvious damage to any poles.
About 150 acres burned before the fire was put out early Thursday. The cause is currently undetermined. No injuries were reported.
