For the second time as many mornings, a fire has caused considerable damage to a home in Greenwood County.
Early Sunday morning, shortly before 1:20 am, fire developed at 311 West Greenwood in Hamilton. The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office says both people inside the home got out safely, but one pet is unaccounted for as of early Monday.
Hamilton Fire, Greenwood County Fire and Greenwood County deputies battled the fire.
Meanwhile, the investigation continues into an apparently fatal fire in Eureka from early Saturday. Eureka Fire, Eureka EMS and Greenwood County deputies responded to 916 North Oak shortly before 3:20 am for a house fire. The blaze then moved to a second nearby structure, destroying both buildings. Once the fire was put out, a body was found inside one of the two buildings.
The Sheriff’s Office is not saying where the body was found and it has not released the victim’s name as the notification process continues.
Both fires are being investigated by the Office of Kansas Fire Marshal.
