Lyon, Greenwood and Wabaunsee counties are earmarked for state funds to help improve rural roads.
For Lyon County, the amount is $949,000 to install shoulders and flatten side slopes on Road F, also known as Americus Road, from Road 245 just north of Americus north to US Highway 56.
In Greenwood County, signage on all major collectors east of Kansas Highway 99 will be upgraded. Cost is just under $400,000.
The Wabaunsee County project includes new pavement markings, new shoulders, renovated guardrails and removed obstructions for Mission Valley Road between Kansas Highway 4 and Harveyville Road at a cost of $288,000.
The better than $6 million in total funding comes from the Kansas High Risk Rural Roads Program. Ten counties were selected out of better than 40 that applied.
