A written opinion will be issued at a later time following a recent bench trial in a Lyon County child misconduct case.
The decision will be the ultimate resolution in what has been a near four-year appeal process by Joe Louis Stewart who was convicted of indecent liberties against a child back in 2016. Stewart was sentenced to 25-years in prison as a result and began his appeal in 2018.
Previous appeals to the Kansas Court of Appeals and Supreme Court have both been unsuccessful to date. A date for when the written opinion on the matter will be announced is currently pending according to Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman.
