The Americus City Council is meeting Tuesday evening.
The special meeting will help the town of almost 900 residents decide how best to proceed with replacing its outdoor warning siren, which was announced as inoperable last week.
If severe weather develops with no outdoor warning siren in place, the current plan involves Lyon County deputies driving across town, using their cruiser sirens as outdoor warning devices. The Sheriff’s Office is still encouraging residents in and around Americus to pay attention to broadcast media and cell phone alerts, especially if they are indoors, while the siren is changed out.
The special meeting is at 6 pm.
