If you want to serve on the Emporia City Commission, the window is now open for you to apply.
The application for the seat being vacated next month by Rob Gilligan was posted on the city’s website, www.emporia-kansas.gov, shortly after noon Thursday. The two-page application involves basic contact information, an opportunity to list community involvement through local organizations and boards and questions about why candidates want to be on the commission, five-year vision goals and the candidates’ top issues facing the city.
The application window closes April 1. City commissioners will interview candidates at a meeting April 6 and could well vote on Gilligan’s replacement at that meeting.
Gilligan, who has served on the Emporia City Commission for over a decade, will start as the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber president and CEO on April 11. The person replacing Gilligan on the City Commission will fill the unexpired term for the seat, which expires in January 2024.
Applications should be emailed to sbryson@emporia-kansas.gov. Click here for the link.
