The end of a nearly 30-year career is drawing closer for Emporia Public Library Director Robin Newell.
Newell reflected on her career during a recent interview on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia last week and says it was not a path she saw herself going down at a young age.
Newell announced her retirement back in February after leading the library for the past seven years. Newell came to Emporia from Nebraska back in 2014 replacing Sue Belchl who retired that same year. Newell says coming to Emporia was an easy decision as the community had a new yet familiar feel to it.
The library board of directors is accepting applications for the director’s position. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
Newell’s final day in the library is May 20th, however, she says she is planning to stick around for a time to assist with the transition of leadership.
Newell’s appearance came as the library is planning for its second round of laser tag on Apr. 14 from 8 to 9 pm. Registration for the event is still open, however, there are only 20 slots available.
The event is for children ages 12-15 and a parent or guardian must sign a participation form for children to take part. For more information on the library or upcoming events visit Emporialibrary.org.
