Nearly 120 young gymnasts from across Kansas made their way to Emporia with hopes of moving on to the national stage Saturday.
White Auditorium hosted the 2022 Kansas Trampoline and Tumbling Championship competition with competitors from Emporia, Topeka, Ottawa, Olathe, McPherson and Parsons all taking to the floor to demonstrate their aerial skills. Amongst the competitors was 11-year-old Alivia Indermuehle who says she has tried many sports throughout her young life and gymnastics was the perfect fit for her.
Sunflower Gymnastics co-owner and competition co-director Stacie Doemland says tumbling and trampoline competition is one of the most inclusive activities for young gymnasts to take part in.
Competitors had to demonstrate multiple skills during the competition all in hopes of securing a high enough score to qualify for the national championships. Those who were unable to qualify at Saturday’s event will have another opportunity by attending the regional competition.
