For the 22nd year, the North Lyon County Youth Association offered the local community a delicious meal and the community could not have been happier.
The annual NLCYA Fish Fry and Auction saw individuals from near and far come through NLC Community Center in Allen to tuck in to a dinner featuring fresh catfish, coleslaw, baked beans and hush puppies. NLCYA President Charles Wallace has been supplying fish for the event the past two decades and says he is amazed to see how it the fundraiser has evolved from humble beginnings to one of the most well-attended events in the area each year.
The COVID-19 pandemic has not seen that attendance slow down as Saturday’s event had a line out the door right from the start with nearly 1,000 individuals stopping through to eat before all was said and done. Wallace believes a major component to the event’s success is that it takes the community back to a “simpler time.”
Along with the delicious fish meal, residents were able to place their bids on a number of donated auction items and a special raffle. All proceeds will benefit NLCYA programming.
The fish fry raised a preliminary total of $23,000. Totals from the silent auction are pending.
