Local college students and residents were on the hunt for an assortment of prizes in Hammond Park Saturday night.
The Emporia State University Choir held a unique adult Easter egg hunt where participants were told to bring their flashlights and had just 15 minutes to search for more than 200 eggs each containing a prize from candy to gift cards and much more. All told, roughly $800 in prizes were up for grabs according to ESU Choral Director Josh Donaldson.
The hunt was held to support the choir’s impending tour of Washington DC in May of next year. The tour is part of a concert series commemorating the 60-year anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream Speech.”
Donaldson says the cost of the tour will total roughly $1,300 per student, however, Donaldson says you can’t truly put a price on the opportunity these students have.
Donaldson went on to say that not only is the opportunity a great learning experience, but the students will also get to be a part of a historic celebration.
Fundraising for the Choir tour will continue through next month. The Choir will be hosting a night of poetry at the Lyon County History Center on Apr. 30 and there is currently a crowdfunding “Give Gold” campaign ongoing through the ESU Foundation.
The campaign will wrap up on May 6th and has a goal of $20,000.
