If you’re planning to stop at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve visitor center or historic buildings this weekend, you’ll have to wait until later this month.
The preserve is paving its parking lot and the Kansas Highway 177 entrance, which is closing off access to the buildings. Work is tentatively set to begin Saturday and continue through April 18, weather permitting.
The park’s hiking and nature trails are open, although visitors will need to use the trailheads at the Lower Fox Creek Schoolhouse, Bottomland Nature Trail and Two Section pasture area east of Strong City to access those trails.
