Lyon County firefighters got busy in a hurry with grass fires Saturday.
After noon, firefighters were called out to several locations:
*200 block Road 230
*2200 block Road K
*Roads 310 and G
*Roads 360 and S
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says the fires, which were apparently all controlled burns initially, started after the wind shifted direction. No injuries or structural damage was reported.
Wind speeds were between 15-30 mph across the KVOE listening area Saturday as temperatures approached 70 degrees. Sunday has been targeted as the warmer and windier day of the weekend, meaning the likelihood of a higher fire danger with any rain chances holding off until very early Monday morning. Sunday’s high is expected around 80 degrees with a south-to-west wind as high as 35 mph.
