The KVOE studios were extra festive Tuesday as the St. Patrick’s Committee held its annual check presentation ceremony live on air.
Thirteen different groups and organizations received funding, and committee member Trey Sommers says the committee “couldn’t be more blessed” with how things turned out this year.
Over $22,000 was handed out Tuesday. Funding came from the annual auction at Bruffs Sports Bar and Grill in late February and was bolstered this year by a new push towards corporate sponsorships instead of the annual raffle. Because fundraising went above goal, Sommers says the committee will try something new later this year — a “Halfway to St. Patty’s Day” event involving a side-by-side poker run into the Flint Hills.
