Identity and Access Administrator
Under the general direction of the Director of IT Infrastructure, the Identity/Access Management (IAM) System Administrator provides role-based user lifecycle management for access to the University’s systems in a secure, comprehensive, timely and cost-effective manner. The incumbent is responsible for the ongoing development, deployment, and support of the University’s evolving multi-vendor IAM system. The IAM System Administrator identifies business needs, provides project management and hands-on implementation support for new IAM applications, administers the IAM components and overall system, and resolves complex system problems.
POSITION DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND COMPETENCIES
Essential duties and responsibilities including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- IAM Administration: Ensures University needs for IAM are met in a comprehensive and consistent manner by analyzing business processes and integrating application requirements with the technical capabilities of the IAM-related products. Identifies gaps in the current IAM technology and process infrastructure; investigates options, makes recommendations, prototypes solutions and/or evaluates vendor solutions. Troubleshoots IAM system/component failures as they occur and provides solutions. Functions as the primary liaison to IAM system/component vendors to resolve issues with their software.
- Active Directory Administration: Troubleshooting issues with Active Directory domains, authentication systems, and account lifecycle procedures including provisioning and deprovisioning user accounts.
- Server Administration: Plans, installs, configures, and optimizes the operation of physical and virtualization environments. Experience with Windows Server and Linux preferred. Manages server maintenance cycles including updates and troubleshooting issues.
- Documentation & Policies: Guides the formation of IAM policies that balance the need for seamless access with the requirement of enterprise security. Produces and updates system documentation to record the IAM environment, including documentation of configuration settings, operating and recovery procedures and data structures.
- Reporting: Designs and maintains user reports to support management information needs (e.g., system usage, operational errors, transaction records, etc.).
- Research and Development: Facilitate solutions development and implementation, gathering of requirements, research into new IT technologies and deploy test systems (hardware and software).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, or related discipline with at least 2 years of experience. Relevant experience and certifications may substitute for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.
- Experience with Identity and Access Management, including hands-on experience with an Identity Management system and an Enterprise Directory (e.g., Active Directory).
- Experience with higher education a plus but not required.
- Knowledge of role-based identity management, previous OAuth or SAML experience, and familiar with programming languages (such as Java, PowerShell, Python) preferred.
