The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been called in by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office following the death of an inmate at the Lyon County Detention Center.
According to a news release from Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch, at approximately 10:41 pm Tuesday, detention officers found 30-year-old Marcus Heard unconscious in his cell during a routine check. An ambulance was called and CPR was performed on Heard, however, it proved to be ineffective as Heard was pronounced dead by paramedics on scene.
Heard, a resident of Kansas City, KS, was arrested in Wyandotte County back in March on a Lyon County District Court warrant for failure to abide and was transported to the Lyon County Detention Center for confinement on Mar. 23.
An investigation is ongoing through KBI. According to the aforementioned news release, the cause of death may have been due to “self-harm,” however, a formal autopsy is pending through Forensic medical the county’s designated coroner.
