Honor Flight No. 9 is underway for area veterans and students in USD 252 Southern Lyon County.
Among the students on this trip is Triton Ybarra of Olpe, who is partnered with his grandfather, Larry Brown. They were supposed to go on the spring 2020 trip, but that was canceled at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. He expects a lot of stories from his grandpa this week.
Kiernan Breshears of Hartford is going with David Brown, who served in Lebanon. She says they have already developed a good friendship.
Superintendent Mike Argabright says that’s part of what makes Honor Flight so special.
Honor Flight partners area veterans with high school students as part of a jam-packed trip to the nation’s capital and several historic areas nearby. The contingent left Olpe around 1:30 am and flew out of Kansas City before 6 am.
