Philosopher Henry David Thoreau once stated, “it’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” As war rages in the county of Ukraine, one resident and former Emporia State student has had much time to look at more than just the devastation Russian forces have brought to his homeland.
For several weeks, KVOE has been in contact with Vladislav Remeniak, a one-time ESU foreign exchange student who has spent the past few months as a runner gathering essential supplies to assist his fellow Ukrainians who have been injured and affected by the invasion of Russian forces back in February. Just a week ago, Russia began missile strikes on the city of Lviv (Luh-VEEV) where Remeniak currently resides which has forced him to come face to face with his own mortality.
Remeniak says while the conflict and carnage going on around him is frightening, he is grateful for the perspective it has given him. He says waking up each morning now carries a greater meaning to him.
As Remeniak is continuing his work to gather resources in Ukraine he has been receiving a great deal of help from his network of friends and allies across the globe. KVOE has mentioned in recent weeks a GoFundMe campaign that was started by Emporia resident Jennifer Baldwin.
The campaign goal is $25,000 and if you would like to donate CLICK HERE.
