The staff of ESB Financial were busy Saturday morning helping secure personal information while also making the earth a greener place.
For around four hours, the parking lot at 8th and Merchant was a busy place as businesses and residents unloaded boxes of documents and e-waste materials as part of the annual ESB community-wide shred and e-waste recycling day. This year’s event was drastically expanded from year’s past as two shred trucks were on hand with the limit on boxes also being raised from three to five.
This was also the first year the event was open to local businesses as well as community members. ESB Marketing Officer Kandace Wakeman says there were several reasons for the event’s expansion, namely the overwhelming turnout for last year’s event.
Wakeman says shred day has several benefits both for the environment and the community, but the main purpose of the event is to take an extra step in protecting not only their clients but the entire community from fraud.
In total, ESB collected right around 9,000 lbs of shredded materials and e-waste Saturday.
