Emporia Police are investigating after a one-vehicle accident in far west Emporia caused significant damage to a local business.
According to Emporia Police Sgt. Dominick Vortherms, a 2009 White Dodge 1500 pickup truck was traveling southbound on Graphic Arts Road when the vehicle veered to the left for unknown reasons. The truck continued onto West Sixth Ave. at a “high rate of speed” and crashed through the front entrance of West Side Recycling at 3401 West Sixth.
The vehicle suffered significant front-end damage and the driver, a yet unnamed white male, suffered reported minor injuries but refused medical treatment. Officers performed a field sobriety test at the scene and the driver showed “no sign of impairment.”
According to West Side ownership, the accident may have caused upwards of $100,000 in structural and equipment damage. The driver was cited for reckless driving and for having no proof of insurance according to Vortherms.
