After the weather forced some alterations to the Dynamic Discs activity schedule Friday night, conditions were nearly ideal Saturday as thousands flocked to downtown Emporia for the annual DDO Block Party.
Saturday’s crowd saw a solid mix of both visitors and local residents walking through the 800 and 900 blocks of Commercial visiting with numerous vendors, sampling delicious food and enjoying the welcoming atmosphere synonymous with Disc Golf Town USA. Emporia Main Street as always assisted in organizing the event and community development coordinator Jessica Buchholz says this is always one of their favorite events to host each year.
Buchholz says the block party has steadily grown from just being an Emporia tradition to an event that sees tremendous regional support each year.
Dynamic Discs President and DDO Assistant Tournament Director Doug Bjerkaas says the block party is a major reason why Emporia loves disc golf and disc golfers love Emporia.
Bjerkaas adds whether you’re a disc golf fan or not, there is no arguing the tremendous impact the sport has on the community year after year.
Along with the food truck festival, activities also included music, games, some late-night rounds of disc golf and the Ring of Fire. The 2022 Dynamic Discs Open will conclude with the final round of pro-play Sunday at the Emporia Country Club.
The next major disc golf event coming to the area will be the 2022 Disc Golf World Championships in late August and early September.
