8:30 pm Monday: Moderate rain areawide, electric pole fire near Olpe under investigation
Storms dumped brief heavy rain and brought an isolated risk of severe weather to the KVOE listening area Monday night.
Storms began moving across the area by 7 pm. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for central Greenwood County but no severe weather was confirmed.
Olpe Fire is determining whether a reported electric pole fire just north of Olpe is wind- or lightning-related. Olpe Fire Chief Wade Schmidt says the power pole broke below the cross member and the rainfall helped to keep the fire from spreading to the ground. The pole caught fire near Roads 80 and M as storms were nearby. Around 30 Evergy customers outside Olpe lost power.
After area residents picked up anywhere from half an inch to an inch of rain Monday, more showers and storms are expected Wednesday through Friday morning. There is currently a marginal severe weather risk for potential activity Wednesday afternoon and evening.
7:20 pm Monday: Severe thunderstorm warning affects part of Greenwood County
Strong thunderstorms have triggered a severe thunderstorm warning for part of the KVOE listening area.
*Southwest Greenwood County: Severe thunderstorm warning until 8 pm. Main concern is 60 mph wind
4:30 pm Monday: Severe weather still possible by early to mid evening Monday
Severe weather activity remains a possibility for the KVOE listening area Monday.
The National Weather Service still has the entire area in a slight severe weather risk through the evening hours. TV-13 Meteorologist Jeremy Goodwin says the greatest chance for severe weather activity will be between 7 and 8 pm.
Portions of the listening area could also receive between three-quarters to an inch of rainfall between tonight and the early morning hours Tuesday.

7:48 am Monday:
Strong storms are possible across the KVOE listening area late Monday afternoon and evening, but TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says there are factors that could limit that risk — and others that could increase it.
The morning round of showers and storms could reduce the risk. These storms are not expected to be severe. Officially, there is now a slight severe weather risk areawide and all hazards are in play, with hail and high wind the main concerns.
