58 Emporia State Student-Athletes were recognized as Earl W Sauder Athletic Scholars and recipients of the Bobbi Sauder Student-Athlete Nursing ScholarshipWednesday.
The scholarships began in 2004 with a gift from Earl Sauder and went to a select group of 16 student-athletes that first year. The scholarship has grown enough to be awarded to 58 student-athletes. Steve Sauder, his wife Bobbi, and his family have made the commitment to keep the scholarship growing.
Graduate Student Dalton Cowan, a member of the Emporia State football team, is a Sauder Scholar.
Erica Self, also a graduate student and a member of both the Emporia State soccer team and track team, says being a Sauder Scholar is a great honor.
To be selected a Sauder Scholar the student-athlete is nominated by their coach with the final selection being made by Athletic Director Kent Weiser.
