Emporia State University’s Dr. John Wade will have extra duties later this year.
Wade was named as the university’s Roe R Cross Distinguished Professor on Thursday, meaning he will give the commencement address for the winter 2022 activities in December.
A psychology professor, Wade joined the ESU faculty in 2012 as an associate professor and was promoted to full professor in 2016. He has served on numerous university committees and works with several industry publications, including his current term as editor for the APA Div 17 Positive Psychology newsletter. He has also been the Psi Chi psychology honor society’s faculty advisory since coming to ESU and previously served as advisor to the Hornets for Hope student organization.
Wade received a surprise announcement while teaching his Psychology in the Real World undergraduate class from Interim President Ken Hush, Interim Provost Gary Wyatt and Dean of the Teachers College Joan Brewer.
The award has been given annually since 1979 to the professor who “best demonstrates teaching excellence, professional activities, fostering of intellectual atmosphere, service to the university outside the classroom and status as a student mentor.” It includes $1,000 for use involving professional activities.
