Let the induction activities begin.
It’s a busy week for the National Teachers Hall of Fame, which begins its annual induction ceremonies with a trip to the nation’s capital all this week. Executive Director Carol Strickland, a recent guest on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia, says there have been a lot of schedule adjustments leading up to this week.
Interim Director Ken Weaver, who officially begins those duties after Strickland retires this summer, says he’s looking forward to connecting with the inductees during the trip — and watching the inductees develop friendships.
The activity slate begins in earnest Tuesday, including meetings with federal policymakers and an evening tour of Washington. Wednesday highlights include an evening tour of the Capitol. For Thursday, inductees will meet with their lawmakers individually as well as with Kansas Senators Roger Marshall and Jerry Moran. On Friday, inductees will meet with the National Education Association’s Board of Directors.
The official inductions happen in Emporia next month, with activities taking place June 14-17 for the 2020 and 2022 classes. Host families are needed for the June activities. For more information, call the Hall of Fame at 620-341-5660 or go online to www.nthf.org.
