It’s safe to say the annual Denim and Diamonds fundraising campaign for Newman Regional Health is off to a good start.
The hospital had its 13th annual kickoff barbecue Thursday, and attendance was heavy in the hospital’s main parking lot. Over 750 meals were served Thursday. Virtually all the meals were claimed by 12:30 pm.
Proceeds will go towards purchasing a C-arm X-ray machine. Events Coordinator Michelle Margesen says it’s important for the hospital to have cutting-edge technology so it can provide top-quality service.
Over the years, Denim and Diamonds has provided funds for numerous ventures, including last year’s project — a simulated apartment suite for inpatient rehabilitation — as well as anesthesia machines, cardiac machines and a nuclear medicine camera just over the past five years.
The kickoff event is among several coming between now and the signature event Aug. 5:
*Panda Express is donating 28 percent of its online or app orders on May 26
*Casa Ramos is donating 20 percent of its proceeds on June 15
*Mr. G’s Express Car Wash is donating 20 percent of its single car wash proceeds on June 18
*The Harry and Lloyd’s cornhole tournament in Americus on June 25 is funneling all proceeds to Denim and Diamonds.
