Unbound Gravel is fast approaching.
Riders got some vital information this week when the course routes were announced. Race Director Ben Sachs, a guest on KVOE’s Morning Show on Tuesday, says riders are headed south this year after two straight years of northbound travel.
Madison and Eureka are checkpoints, with Hamilton serving as a “water oasis.” Speaking of checkpoints and volunteers, Athlete Supervisor Treva Worrell says several community groups are already on board with more needed. She also says Unbound organizers are always looking for ways to give back to checkpoint communities.
As many as 3,000 riders could participate in just the 100-mile and 200-mile options, with total participation nearing 4,000.
Activities begin June 2 with group rides, the welcome party and the start of the All Things Gravel Expo. The June 3 schedule includes the start of the 350-mile Unbound XL and the riders’ meeting. June 4 has all other race lengths launching from downtown Emporia, awards ceremony for juniors and 100-mile participants and the Happily ENVE After Party. For June 5, the schedule includes the awards ceremony for those participating in the 200-mile and XL races.
