With supplies of baby formula still tight across the country, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly says she is directing stage agencies to work with their federal counterparts to make life easier for parents of young children.
The governor says the Kansas Department of Health and Environment is now working with the White House and several federal agencies or associations — including the US Department of Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration, National Women Infants and Children Associaton and National Governors Association — help coordinate efforts at the state and national levels.
Governor Kelly says KDHE has already offered waivers to make more infant formula products available, including so-called “Ready to Feed” options, and the agency has also approved more formula products to be available for WIC families. KDHE and the Department for Children and Families are working together to increae communication efforts.
The state is asking families to take several steps if they are having issues finding formula:
*Talk with their OBGYN or pediatrician to see if they can offer resources or suggestions for alternative formulas
*Switch to another brand or type of formula if recommended by a doctor
*Reach out to smaller stores and drugstores
*Contact the local WIC agency. Area residents can reach out to CareArc at 620-342-4864 ext. 4
