Overall, the state’s jobless rate held steady between March and April.
Kansas Department of Labor economist Emilie Doerksen said the overall trend reflected gains and losses in various sectors, leading to a 2.4 percent jobless rate for the second straight month.
Locally, Emporia and Lyon County went below 2 percent unemployment. Emporia dipped from 2.4 to 1.9 percent and Lyon County went from 2.4 to 1.8 percent.
Across the KVOE listening area, all counties had lower jobless rates from March to April and none of the current numbers were above Coffey County’s 2.7 percent. Chase County has the area’s lowest unemployment rate at 1.5 percent, and Greenwood and Morris counties also came in under 2 percent.
